Dr. Miriam Klassen Officially Appointed as Medical Officer of Health for Perth County

Perth County - On Tuesday, November 14, Dr. Miriam Klassen was officially appointed the Medical Officer of Health for Perth County by the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, Deb Matthews. Dr. Klassen had been serving as Perth’s Acting Medical Officer of Health since September 2007.
“On behalf of the Board of Health, I’d like to extend our congratulations to Dr. Klassen and welcome her as the official Medical Officer of Health,” says Joan Facey, Chair of the Perth Board of Health. “We look forward to continuing our work together in protecting and promoting the health of Perth County residents.”
Dr. Klassen served as the Acting Medical Officer of Health while she finished her Masters of Public Health degree at the University of Waterloo. Before studying to become a Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Klassen was a physician with the North Perth Family Health Team and had a family practice in Listowel for more than 12 years.
“Public health programs and services benefit the whole population, and through prevention and early intervention they can have a significant impact on some of the most pressing health problems of today,” says Dr. Klassen. “I am excited to be working with our Board, our staff, our citizens, and our community partners to make Perth County a place where everyone enjoys optimal health.”
